A corner worth crossing town for. The kind of place a neighborhood gets built around. The idea behind Vici Café
Vici Café is Patrick Bazzi's doing. A Linda Vista local, he opened it while working through law school, on a corner his family already knew well. His father has run the Minit Mart next door for years, so the Bazzis have been part of this block for a long time.
Patrick is betting on the neighborhood. He talks about Linda Vista the way people once talked about North Park, as somewhere worth crossing San Diego for rather than driving past. Vici is his version of that, a room built for staying. He runs it with his sister, Leona.
And it earns the stay. Polished concrete floors, soft plaster walls, woven globe pendants, and bench seating along the wall, with tall windows that catch the afternoon. Calm, a little design-forward, easy to settle into for a coffee date or a few hours with a laptop.
The coffee runs deep and the matcha arrives with a flower on top. The kitchen leans Italian, with salami, prosciutto and mortadella on fresh bread, plus croissants, chocolate and almond, baked for the morning. It is dog-friendly too; the regulars on four legs claim the cool floors and stay as long as anyone.
